2007 Honolulu Magazine: 50 Greatest Hawai‘i Songs

In June 2007, Honolulu magazine published its poll of “The 50 Greatest Hawai‘i Songs.” I’ve tabulated the information as it was reported in the article.

For this poll, magazine executives invited 35 experts to submit their lists. [Disclosure: I was not one of the invited contributors.] This final list is the result of a weighted point system used on those individually submitted lists.

These kinds of polls are fascinating, for when you place multiple polls side by side, you can actually see how some preferences endure over time, despite changing trends, fads, novelties, etc.

One Response to 2007 Honolulu Magazine: 50 Greatest Hawai‘i Songs

  1. Norman says:

Interesting to see that there doesn’t seem to be any specific attempt to give a nod to instrumentalists in the list. Such as Leonard Kwan’s Opihi Moe Moe, or Led’s Radio Hula. Sonn’y Wheeha Swing. No specific recognition of Hawaiian Steel Guitar, either. Ukuleles, anyone. Ohto-san, where are you?
